What is the purpose of using a fan in large asynchronous motors themselves?

The motor of the cycle compressor used in the ammonia synthesis section is a large three-phase asynchronous motor; the exact model is not known, but it is known that the diameter of the motor is very large, around two meters. There are brushes. For the brush section, a fan is used; this fan draws in air from the outside and blows it toward the brush area. Why is this done? What is the function of a fan? Is it possible not to install a fan?
Based on our factory’s practical experience, compressors in the ammonia synthesis section generally use synchronous motors. It is these synchronous motors that are equipped with carbon brushes, which are used to supply direct current to the excitation windings. As the carbon brushes move on the rapidly rotating rotor, friction generates sparks. However, the synthesis section is a zone requiring explosion protection; fans are installed there to maintain positive pressure, thereby meeting the requirements for motors in such explosion-proof zones – that is, the motors are designed to be intrinsically safe.
Brushes are definitely there; I’ve opened it before and seen those charcoal-like things. Asynchronous estimation – I misread it. Since the machines are located in the factory building, explosion protection is necessary, probably to prevent fires.
