Connection issues of flat steel in fiberglass reinforced plastic cable trays

Online searches indicate that flat steel should be used for laying power cables within fiberglass cable trays; but if these cables are laid in series along the tray, how should the flat steels be connected to each other? For lap welding, it seems impractical when the distance is large and it’s done inside an overhead cable tray. Could flat steel be used to create two shorting pieces, with holes drilled in them and bolts used to secure them in place? Are there any other proper methods?
It’s quite realistic – everyone prefers welding over bolted connections
