This motor was entirely designed and manufactured by Dongfang Electric using its own R&D technologies. Test data show that, compared with similar motors at home and abroad, the motor used in this pipeline offers advantages such as higher power, higher speed, better efficiency, less vibration, and a wider operating range. This new type of pipeline motor can significantly improve the efficiency of pipeline transportation and reduce the costs associated with pipeline construction and maintenance. Its continuous operating range is from 3120 r/min to 6300 r/min. Previously, only a few foreign companies possessed the capabilities for design, manufacturing, and complete system integration. To achieve a technological advantage, Dongfang Electric has carried out technical research and specialized studies in areas such as the selection of high-speed bearings, optimization of the rotor’s second-order critical speed, design and precise handling of rotor dynamic balance, noise reduction design and implementation for high-speed motors, positive-pressure explosion protection design and verification, as well as the precise assembly and alignment of motor units. It has successfully resolved technical challenges related to motor vibration, noise, high-pressure shaft forces, and explosion protection. In collaboration with machinery manufacturers, it has also addressed the issues associated with the manufacturing and supply of high-speed motor shafts and retaining rings. A responsible official from Dongfang Electric stated that the successful development of this type of motor allows it to fully replace the existing 20MW 4800r/min pipeline compressor drive motors. Through technical improvements, optimizations, and enhancements, it can also be widely used in sectors such as thermal power generation and metallurgy, helping to improve system stability and achieve better energy-saving and emission-reduction results. The full name of the pipeline motor is natural gas pipeline compressor drive motor; it is widely used in the transportation of natural gas through main pipelines, and serves as the main electric motor for driving the compressors in such pipelines. At the current stage, natural gas main pipelines require a compression station consisting of 2 to 4 compressors every 150 to 170 km, in order to maintain high pressure and large flow rates for transportation. Pipeline motors can increase the gas delivery volume and pressure as the motor power and speed rise, thereby enabling gas transmission over longer distances. This reduces the need to build compression stations, lowers construction and maintenance costs, and improves the stability of gas transmission. Therefore, large-capacity, high-power, high-speed pipeline motors are particularly suitable for environments with harsh conditions and situations where an increased gas transmission distance is required for special reasons.
