I graduated just two years ago and joined an oil and chemical company in the electrical engineering field, where I am involved in on-site power generation and operation (on shift). The work is relatively relaxed, but since it’s a support department within an oil and chemical company, is there any room for growth in the field of electrical engineering? I’m wondering whether I should consider studying chemistry in a different major with the hope of eventually transitioning to work in that field, or should I continue my studies in electrical engineering. I’m very conflicted and distressed; there are also many formalities associated with working in some companies, and I’m forced to do tasks that aren’t part of my core responsibilities. I can’t seem to find a clear direction to move forward. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions from those who are more experienced. Thank you.

It depends on what major you’re studying; delving deep into your field is more effective than anything else
Personally, I think in chemical companies, front-line process technicians are the most in demand. Although tired, the secondary instruments. Then there’s electricity. It is recommended to focus on high-voltage electrical engineering, as it offers good prospects and relatively easier work.
I guess electricity is the least promising field:D
In chemical enterprises, electrical systems serve a supporting role; it is essential to master the electrical equipment and secondary protection systems of one’s own facility.
The instrumentation major is better than electrical engineering. For electrical systems, it’s simpler to use relay protection plus an integrated automation system.
