In the chemical processing units of adjacent wells operated by domestic and international oil and gas companies, oil and gas are often used as raw materials to produce large amounts of hydrogen through steam reforming, which is then utilized in facilities for the production of ammonia and urea. In such projects, there are a large number of compressor systems along with their inlet sections, inter-stage sections, and gas scrubbing tanks; vane separators are used as the gas scrubbing tanks in these cases. Please discuss based on the operating conditions and usage experience of the air scrubbers in your own compression systems.
In this project, the compressor gas scrubbers include the gas scrubbing tank for the suction section of the main compressor, the gas scrubbing tank for the discharge section of the main compressor, the gas scrubbing tank for the exhaust of the main compressor’s safety valve, the gas scrubber for the suction section of the first-stage compressor that produces commercial gas, the gas scrubber for the suction section of the second-stage compressor that produces commercial gas, and the gas scrubbing tanks for the suction sections of the CO2 compressors in stages 1 to 4. This is an international project that’s perfect for everyone to discuss.
Let’s first take a look at the operating conditions of the gas cleaning tank in the suction section of the main compressor: 1. Medium: oil and gas; 2. Operating temperature: 27-36℃ ; 3. Operating pressure: 1848.7 kPaG ; 4. Gas flow rate: 3,000,000 Nm^3/d ; 5. Vapor density: 24.06 kg/m^3; 6. Liquid flow rate: 74 m^3/d ; 7. Liquid phase density: 755.1 kg/m^3.

The process package requires that the gas-liquid separation element installed in the air scrubber at the inlet section of this main compressor be of at least the first-generation Chevron baffle plate technology level or higher; such gas-liquid separation elements are shown in the figure below.

As can be seen from the schematic diagram of the internal components in the image above, it is indeed the simplest first-generation Chevron baffle plate from the 1950s. This type of internal component has low gas-liquid separation efficiency, a limited capacity for capturing and containing liquid droplets and foam, and low operational flexibility, although it is inexpensive. I recommend to the owner and the process package provider the use of the fifth-generation vane separation internals, as a technological upgrade that replaces the aforementioned simplest first-generation Chevron baffle plates. After all, the amount of liquid carried by the air flow is quite high!

The performance data of the gas scrubber in the suction section of the main compressor, obtained through the Novel precise dynamics gas-liquid separation process calculation and design system platform for determining the accurate configuration, are as follows: 1. Separator type: vaned separator; 2. Inlet airflow distributor: Fan blade separation assembly ; 3. Separation efficiency: 4N level separation to remove liquid droplets and bubbles of 7.32 microns and larger in size ; 4. Operating pressure drop: 0.39 psi. 5. Operating range: 15-130%.
Process operating conditions for the vent of the main compressor safety valve into the common gas scrubbing tank: 1. Medium: oil and gas; 2. Operating temperature: 27-36℃ ; 3. Operating pressure: 1848.7 kPaG ; 4. Gas flow rate: 6,000,000 Nm^3/d ; 5. Vapor density: 24.06 kg/m^3; 6. Liquid flow rate: 100 m^3/d ; 7. Liquid phase density: 755.1 kg/m^3.
