For this major maintenance campaign, my supervisor has assigned me the responsibility for overseeing the inspection, cleaning, installation, and pressure testing of heat exchangers. I would like to ask everyone for advice on how to carry out this work effectively In other words, what aspects should I pay attention to at work?
1. Maintain a ledger of the heat exchangers that require cleaning and pressure testing, clearly indicating which ones only need cleaning and which ones need both cleaning and pressure testing. 2. Prepare gaskets; have at least two sets of gaskets for each heat exchanger, to allow for replacement in case issues arise during pressure testing. 3. Prepare the bolts, including those for the tube box, the small floating head, and the outer cover; these can be reported at one-third of the standard quantity. 4. Keep proper records, including the pressure required to test each heat exchanger, the duration for maintaining that pressure, records of any leaks, and records of measures taken to seal those leaks
During acceptance, an on-site inspection of the cleaning effectiveness should be carried out to verify that both inside the tube bundles and on the tank walls have been thoroughly cleaned
I believe the most important thing is to prepare the pressure testing fixtures properly; it is essential to verify with the construction team the dimensions and pressure ratings of the heat exchanger flanges to ensure that the pressure testing fixtures are correct.
