Which produces hydrogen at a lower cost: natural gas or light naphtha? ?
In a book for operators of hydrogen production plants, it seems to be said that the best sources are methane, natural gas, and methanol; however, light naphtha can also be used, though the yield is not high!
It is now rare to use naphtha to produce hydrogen. Overall, natural gas is still superior to light naphtha; as for the price, it depends on the cost of your raw materials – for example, if the naphtha produced as a by-product in your plant is cheap. . .
We have no way to dispose of the light naphtha produced through hydrocracking; at present, the only option is to sell it. The company’s hydrogen production facility uses natural gas for hydrogen generation, but there are still issues regarding the source of natural gas. Under these circumstances, it’s unclear whether it’s better to sell the light naphtha or to use it for hydrogen production ?
You know the costs of both raw materials; calculate the costs based on the hydrogen production volume (including operating costs and investment costs). But if your natural gas supply isn’t sufficient, then you’ll have to choose other viable options.
Natural gas should be better than light naphtha, right?
