Why are some raw material tanks pressurized with fuel gas while others use nitrogen? What is the difference between the two? Why is nitrogen used in the water injection tank?
The gas seals for nitrogen and fuel gas serve the same purpose. Using nitrogen for water injection is a safety measure aimed at reducing the leakage of flammable gases. When the medium itself contains flammable gases, either nitrogen or fuel gas can be used; using fuel gas can help reduce the energy consumption of the installation as well as the amount of nitrogen in the gas stored in the gas tanks. It also prevents flammable gases from entering the nitrogen pipeline network. Therefore, blind flanges are usually installed on nitrogen lines, which are used only as backup sources.
