A few days ago, the facility lost power and resumed operation; as a result, the experiments conducted by Dr. Naphtha kept failing. Later, water was added to the distillation reflux tank, and now the tests are passing. I would like to ask experienced colleagues what is the principle behind this

No, it’s just a simple diesel hydrogenation system; there is only hydrogen circulation for desulfurization, while any other sulfur-containing compounds are removed and recovered in other units
The Doctor test failed, clearly due to excessive levels of thiol sulfur; washing with water made it pass the test, which indicates the presence of lower-level thiols, as these are water-soluble； Advanced thioethers, on the other hand, are oil-soluble, and neither washing with water nor with alkali is effective against them.
