What is the difference between the concentration unit and the purification unit in VPSA? What factors are considered?
The difference between VPSA and PSA lies in the method used for desorbing and regenerating the adsorbent; VPSA uses vacuum for desorption and regeneration, while PSA uses atmospheric pressure. The two-stage method used in hydrogen purification units can effectively increase the regeneration load on the adsorbents in those units. The first stage involves the rough removal of carbon dioxide, thereby reducing the adsorption load of carbon dioxide on the purification unit in the second stage. It can effectively reduce the volume of the two-stage equipment and the amount of packing required. It is generally used in larger-scale installations.
In my understanding, a VPSA concentration unit can produce either a product with weak adsorbability or one with strong adsorbability, or it can produce both; the purity requirements for the product are not high, and additional processes are used for further purification. In contrast, a simple PSA purification unit requires only one type of product, and the purity standards for that product are relatively high. For reference only
