I would like to know if other affiliated units have hydrogen sulfide alarms installed in their compressor rooms A few days ago, our department had an exam that covered the types of alarms used in compressor rooms. One new colleague asked that since circulating hydrogen contains large amounts of hydrogen sulfide, it is possible to use hydrogen sulfide detectors in such rooms, or combustible gas detectors as well. I wanted to explain to him that combustible gas detectors should be more sensitive to leaks than hydrogen sulfide detectors, but I wasn’t sure about it. So I’m bringing it up for discussion with everyone here, seeking advice from all the teachers!
Hydrogen sulfide detectors should be installed on the ground, while gas detectors should be placed at a higher elevation.
Although hydrogen sulfide has a high sensitivity, an alarm is triggered at 10 units. But in terms of quantity, there is a lot of hydrogen; the circulating hydrogen after desulfurization is over 500. If there is a leak, flammable gases would spread more quickly. The explosion threshold for hydrogen is low, so it shouldn’t spread slowly either. It seems that our compressors don’t have hydrogen sulfide protection installed; I’ll go and check again today.
