The amount of cold hydrogen is determined based on the bed temperature, product quality, temperature rise, catalyst activity, and the duration for which the catalyst can operate. As long as the product meets the required standards, the lower the bed temperature, the better. Cold hydrogen is generally not used in hydrorefining, while it is commonly used in hydrocracking and hydroprocessing

There are two ways to regulate cold hydrogen: one is by adjusting the amount of cold hydrogen at the inlet of each bed, so that the temperature at the inlet of each bed is the same; Another approach is to adjust the amount of cold hydrogen so that the outlet temperature of each bed layer is the same. During normal operation, the cold hydrogen valves of each bed layer should be kept at a level below a certain opening degree to be used in emergencies. When the bed temperature rises sharply, first increase the amount of cold hydrogen, then lower the furnace temperature. The factors that affect the amount of cold hydrogen include changes in the bed temperature rise, changes in the total flow rate of circulating hydrogen, and changes in the outlet temperature of the reaction feed heater.
