Is all the oil fed into the reactor of a gasoline hydrogenation unit in gas phase?
Gasoline is a mixture; when it enters the reactor, due to temperature and pressure factors, some of its components may be in the gas phase while others are in the liquid phase.
Axens’ technology is likely a pure gas-phase reactor. The selective hydrogenation earlier on is in a pure liquid phase.
Gas-phase hydrogenation does not mean that all the materials in the reactor are in gas phase; rather, it means that the continuous phase within the reactor is in gas phase. Generally, the continuous phase in gas-phase hydrogenation is recycled hydrogen, which is in gas form, which is why it is called gas-phase hydrogenation
