The form of acid in diesel is generally naphthenic acid. Deacidification is essentially a deoxygenation reaction. A high acid value in the diesel product indicates that the crude oil used by the operator might be high-acid crude. It is recommended to increase the reaction temperature and measure the acidity of the crude oil to compare it with that of the product, thereby assessing the efficiency of the deacidification process in the reactor. If there is no significant reduction in acidity, it is advisable to check whether there is any mixing between the raw material and the product, as deacidification is not a hydrogenation reaction. If the acidity level of the colleague’s sample is high, check the iron content as well; it should be high as well. If none of these phenomena are correct, then check the additives.
