Fire water coils are installed in the compressor buildings of hydrogenation units; how do they prevent the fire water pipes from freezing?
The fire hydrants here are not fitted with anti-freezing measures; the valves are located 2 meters underground, while the depth of the frozen soil layer in winter is 1.5 meters, so there’s no problem. It depends on the depth of the frozen soil in the area where the poster is located
Outdoor fire hydrants are of the self-emptying type; once they are closed, the water inside them is automatically drained. Compressor buildings are usually built on two floors. In all cases where pipes run above the ground level, if the valves in the valve chambers are closed in winter and the water in the pipes is drained, it’s not clear whether this meets safety standards; Or insulation can be applied from the beginning of the design, but it’s difficult to paint the insulating metal sheets after that (the paint tends to peel off), which again may not meet the requirement that fire protection water pipes must be painted red
It’s possible to do that; after closing the valve, check for any internal leaks. If there are no leaks and the valve is located below the permafrost layer, then there should be no problems. However, it is rare to find systems with heating; the pipelines are buried, and when heating is added, the degree of damage to the anti-corrosion coating must be taken into account
