Our dry gas hydrogen production plant has just started operating; everything else is normal. The pH level of the water in the boiler is only 7, while it should be between 9 and 11. The deionized water we use has a pH of 7, and the pH of the deoxygenated water is also 7. Because the pH of the boiler water was low, we increased the amount of trisodium phosphate added; as a result, the phosphate level rose, but the pH remained at 7. Later, we added sodium hydroxide to the device used for adding trisodium phosphate in order to adjust the pH. I thought the amount of sodium hydroxide added was sufficient, yet the measured pH was still 7 – it’s really strange and I can’t understand it. I’m asking the experts here to help me analyze the reason! ! ! !
There are several possible reasons why the pH level of the boiler water cannot be increased: 1. There may be issues with the dosing equipment, such as uneven mixing, insufficient dosage, or an improperly positioned dosing point; 2. Other chemicals in the boiler water may neutralize the alkaline substances added ; 3. The alkaline buffering capacity of the boiler water may be high, so an increased amount of regulator is required ; 4. The system may have leaks or unremoved acidic substances. It is recommended to check whether the dosing system is working properly, to conduct a comprehensive chemical analysis of the boiler water sample to ensure that no other factors are affecting the pH value, and to gradually increase the amount of regulator added until the desired pH range is achieved. It is also necessary to check for any leakage or cross-contamination issues in other systems. .

We currently use ready-made boiler corrosion inhibitors that contain components for pH adjustment, but they are much more expensive than trisodium phosphate.
