In a sulfur recovery furnace, when the power supply to the flame detector is suddenly lost, should the detector output a signal indicating no flame or a signal indicating a flame? It depends on the configuration of the detector at that time or the way the contacts are connected; the standard in this regard isn’t clear. I think interlock requirements apply here, so a fail-safe connection method must be chosen, which usually involves normally open contacts.
