The oil content in the purified water is 20 mg/l. Is it relatively high? In other words, the acidic water carries oil into the tower, which means that acidic water with oil is entering the tower. Does the purified water contain oil as well? Thank you, please share your thoughts

It is generally advisable to keep the oil content in the acidic water entering the tower at 50 milligrams per liter. Refineries usually have storage tanks for raw water, as well as various oil removal devices such as inter-tank oil removers and oil separators; these facilities help to remove oil effectively during the pre-treatment stage of the raw water, which is beneficial for the normal operation of the stripping tower.

This post was last edited by longziyun on 2018-9-15 at 22:45. 20mg/l is really not high; in the oil refining industry, it’s considered good if the oil content in acidic water can be kept below 50mg/l. Even the best industrial-grade coagulators and oil removers cannot eliminate all oil completely. To reduce the oil content further, demulsifiers must be used.
20 mg/L is essentially the upper limit for oil dissolved in water; only at higher concentrations might oil droplets precipitate. If they’re just light hydrocarbons, there won’t be any major problems.
Once the general equipment is operating properly, the oil remover is basically no longer needed
At present, there is no effective solution for removing oil from the water used in purification; the only option is to minimize the amount of oil in the raw water fed into the tower. The oil removal process ahead generally involves using oil removers and storage tanks to eliminate molecular oil; for emulsified oil, demulsifiers can be added, while it is currently difficult to remove dissolved oil. At present, there are many oil removers on the market, all of which claim to be able to effectively remove oils in three different states. In reality, a considerable portion of the emulsified and dissolved oils enters the tower; after being heated by steam, some of this oil is removed through the side lines and the vapor stream at the top of the tower, while the rest remains in the purified water.
Will the oil removers no longer be needed once your equipment is operating properly?
