Could you please explain what are the internal mixing method and external mixing method?

I would like to ask the experts: the book mentions that there is a mixing valve at the inlet of the converter, and mixing methods are divided into internal mixing and external mixing; I’m not quite sure about this. Is the mixing valve exposed on top of the sulfur production furnace part of the external mixing method? What is the in-situ mixing method then?
The internal mixing elements are installed inside the waste heat boiler (including bypass pipes and control valves)； The principle is the same as that of external admixtures. The space is limited, with the mixing tube inside, making it difficult to carry out repairs in case of a fault.
The difference lies in the source of the heat exchange gas and the form of heat exchange
