On [2026-01-05], Shanghai Petrochemical produced low-sulfur petroleum coke for the first time; some of the products with a sulfur content below 2.5% were sold as 3B-grade coke. This move further contributed to optimizing the company’s product portfolio by shifting from oil-based products to specialty products, thereby helping to improve the company’s efficiency. Due to its low sulfur content, low-sulfur petroleum coke offers better environmental benefits and economic value, and can be used in fields such as electrolytic aluminum and graphite electrodes. With the rapid development of the new energy market, the application prospects for low-sulfur petroleum coke are very promising. Sinopec Shanghai actively promoted the shift from conventional oil to specialty oils; despite no significant changes in the types of crude oil purchased, it optimized its production arrangements and used some low-sulfur crude oil to trial-produce low-sulfur coke, achieving success in doing so. They refined the production process, developed standardized operation manuals and specific production plans, clarified the responsibilities for each stage, and ensured quality control throughout the entire process. Optimize the process of the delayed coking unit and adjust relevant parameters. Coordinate in advance with the refining and sales company to develop a specialized sales plan for low-sulfur petroleum coke, ensuring that the products are delivered from the factory on time.
