Currently, with the use of ethanol-based fuels, the development of MTBE has been hindered. Considering the current situation both domestically and internationally, what are some good applications for isobutylene in areas other than fuel production that would make it worthwhile to build factories for such purposes? Theoretically, most MTBE plants will not be greatly affected; if they do reach a point where they can no longer operate, they might opt to reduce their carbon-4 production as a way to control the situation. The main downstream products of isobutylene are methyl methacrylate and butyl rubber, with other uses being relatively minor
