What are the regulations regarding the distance requirements from surrounding residential areas? How are fire separation distances within a factory specified? Thank you
The storage tank holds 20% ammonia solution, which is a hazardous chemical; therefore, it needs to be designed in accordance with the regulations for handling hazardous chemicals. Why not change it to a tank for storing 8% dilute ammonia solution? The safety level would drop by one tier immediately.
Originally, although 20% ammonia solution is a hazardous chemical, it is merely an alkaline corrosive substance; in terms of fire hazard, it cannot be classified as Category C either. But ammonia is a pungent substance; if it is too close to residential areas, residents will complain if they smell it. Furthermore, some people believe that the fire hazard of ammonia water should be considered as belonging to Category B. So, if you can leave some space, it’s better to go with the higher option.
According to the Technical Code for Denitrification Engineering in Cement Plants GB 51045-2014, ammonia storage tanks are classified as Category C
