I can share some experience on how to prevent burns.
On high-temperature pipes that lack proper insulation or have inadequate insulation, as well as on the surfaces of equipment, if one touches them carelessly with their hands or arms, the skin will immediately peel off. Such high-temperature pipes with insufficient insulation can be found frequently at the site; When using a steam hose, if you’re not careful, the connection between the pipes can come loose and steam can escape, causing burns... In the event of a burn, the first thing to do is to rinse the area with cold water. No matter how cold it is, no matter how icy the water, you must keep rinsing for ten minutes to ensure that the injury heals quickly.
Mainly, there are many steam scalding accidents, which occur primarily due to sudden steam leaks in uninsulated steam pipes.
Yes, steam burns are the most common
It’s not just burns; there are also many cases of frostbite. Although low-temperature pipes and containers are equipped with insulation and shielding measures, frostbite can still occur. I ask our colleagues working on the front line to be careful and take proper precautions to protect themselves at the work site.
Just yesterday, a colleague from one of the operation teams accidentally touched the heat transfer oil pipeline (due to damaged insulation material), resulting in burns. Fortunately, the injury was not serious and it was treated on the spot. Safety must always be prioritized at the production site; it’s a phrase that is often repeated in meetings – safety is more important than anything else.
Both high-temperature and low-temperature pipelines should be insulated, and any damage to the insulation should be repaired promptly. However, in a chemical plant, safety must always be kept in mind, and pipes should not be touched casually
The lower legs and ankles were scalded. A soft rubber hose was used to connect the steam delivery pipeline; since it wasn’t checked whether the hose was blocked, the steam connection was connected and the valve was opened. Once the blockage in the hose was cleared, the hose moved suddenly, causing steam burns
