I. Amount of SO2 produced by the boiler per hour: The amount of SO2 generated by the boiler (mg/Nm3) = Coal consumption (t/h) × Sulfur content (%) × 2 × Combustion efficiency × 109 / 100 × Volume of dry flue gas (Nm3/h). The designed volume of dry flue gas for our factory’s boilers is 277,920 Nm3/h. If the boiler consumes 35 tons of coal per hour, the sulfur content in the coal is 1%, and the combustion efficiency is 95%, then the amount of SO2 produced by each boiler per hour is 2,393 mg/Nm3. II. Amount of SO2 removed per hour by each absorption tower: Amount of SO2 removed (t) = Coal consumption (t/h) × Sulfur content (%) × 2 × Combustion rate × Desulfurization efficiency. If a boiler consumes 35 tons of coal per hour, the sulfur content in the coal is 1%, the combustion rate of the boiler is 95%, and the designed desulfurization efficiency is 90%, then the amount of SO2 removed by one such tower is 0.6 tons. III. Amount of calcium carbide slag consumed per hour by the desulfurization system: Calcium carbide slag consumed by the desulfurization system (t/tower) = Amount of SO2 removed (t) × 56 ÷ 64 × 0.65. If the boiler consumes 35 tons of coal per hour and the sulfur content in the coal is 1%, then one absorption tower will consume 0.8 tons of calcium carbide slag per hour. The amount of calcium carbide slag required can be estimated using the following formula: Amount of calcium carbide slag consumed by the desulfurization system (t/h) = 80 × number of boilers (desulfurization towers in operation) × sulfur content (%). IV. Amount of sodium alkali required per hour by the desulfurization system: Amount of sodium alkali needed by the desulfurization system (kg/tower) = amount of SO2 removed (t) × 1000 × 0.05 × 40 × 64 × 0.3. If a boiler consumes 35 tons of coal per hour and the sulfur content in the coal is 1%, then for one absorption tower in operation, 62.34 kg of sodium alkali is required per hour. The amount of sodium alkali that needs to be added can be estimated using the following formula: Sodium alkali added to the desulfurization system (kg/h) = 6234 × number of boilers (desulfurization towers in operation) × sulfur content (%)
