There is currently a tower with a diameter of 1600 mm, made of 304 material, operating at a pressure of 0.02 MpaG and designed for a pressure of 1.0 MpaG; its height is 11 meters. Since packing material needs to be installed at different heights within the tower, it is necessary to construct a steel structure as well as ladder platforms outside the tower. I would like to ask whether ordinary pressure vessel manufacturers are capable of designing such steel structures and ladder platforms? Also, should this ladder platform be designed as an external steel platform or is it better to use a spiral staircase? In some areas where the packing is installed, the platform width needs to be around 1000 mm, so approximately 4 levels of platform will be required.

For large tower structures, it’s best to use an external steel structural framework to support the platform~~~ If there is a structural framework available in the vicinity, this setup can be adopted; If it is far from the surrounding framework, platforms and ladder structural support points (shims) can be welded to the tower~~~~ As long as the load requirements are specified, the design team can handle the design ; Judging from this, the tower in question doesn’t require welding, so the manufacturer doesn’t need to produce these gussets (they can be cut and welded on site by the construction team~~)
First of all, with a diameter of only 1.6 meters, why build a spiral staircase? Doesn’t that make your head spin? Secondly, the operating pressure is only 20 kPa, so pressure vessels can be avoided; then why design it with a pressure of 1.0 MPa?
There are various reasons for the increase in design pressure. For towers like this, if they are stand-alone, it is most appropriate to have a circular platform, and there are standards for the design of such circular platforms.
