Are the manholes in a packed tower used to remove the packing? What is the purpose of the manway in a plate tower? Is it necessary to include one?
Bulk packing towers are generally equipped with discharge holes for cleaning the packing during maintenance. I’ve never heard of a hand hole in plate towers; it would be best to include a picture for reference

To prevent dead zones where the flow of the medium is halted or impaired due to the sections of manholes or access holes, it is advisable to use or design manholes and access holes with cores； For large-diameter towers, manholes can be used as filler discharge ports, while for small-diameter towers, handholes can be used as filler discharge ports. A baffle should be installed inside the filler discharge hole; otherwise, every time the flange gasket is replaced, the entire filler has to be removed and then refilled, which is very troublesome – it increases costs and can also affect production by causing delays.
One additional point to note is that in some tower designs, flanges for adding connection pipes are provided in advance; what appears to be a manhole is actually a pre-arranged feature. It is necessary to make a clear distinction.
