We are involved in a tar processing project, and the process flow is relatively simple: raw material – dehydration tower – heating furnace – vacuum tower. The resulting mixed oil is sent for hydrogenation, while the medium-temperature asphalt is used for modification. The vapor from the vacuum tower undergoes air cooling before being cooled further with water and then sent to the reflux tank. There was a problem with the water cooler; during maintenance, mercury was found inside the vapor pipeline. Mercury is insoluble in both water and oil, and it’s unclear where this substance came from And this is the second time it has been discovered
First, what makes you think that unknown substance is mercury? How is it tested? Also, check whether the temperature measurement points of the equipment have ever used glass thermometers for measurement Or in places where differential pressure is detected, has the differential pressure detection method using a U-tube with mercury been used? It is very important to first determine whether it is mercury.
Check whether mercury chloride, metallic mercury, etc. are used in the process.
Is there mercury in the additives? Can’t think of anything else? Are you sure it’s mercury?
