What is its working principle? Why is it on the outside? If I’m not mistaken, the left side of this diagram is the pump side, and the right side is the motor side.

The views expressed below are solely personal opinions; please point out any mistakes: A floating throttle bushing is one in which a spring mechanism is present, allowing it to move during operation. The gap between the throttle bushing and the shaft sleeve changes as the pressure of the fluid used for sealing changes. I assume that this floating throttle bushing is used to control the flow rate of the fluid used for sealing. I don’t know if my guess is correct. There are sealing manufacturers in the forum; once the experts respond, the truth will become clear. I found the information.

That one is reserved for PLAN62; according to API682 3rd edition, single-face mechanical seals must be equipped with throttle linings; This sleeve is designed to facilitate the circulation of the PLAN62 medium; it fills most of the gaps and reduces the flow rate of the medium escaping from the back side of the seal, which is why it is informally referred to as a throttling sleeve. The mediums used in PLAN62 include water, steam, and nitrogen. Since mechanical seals allow for a certain amount of leakage (5.6 g/min, or two drops per minute), the leaked medium flows from positions 3 and 4 in the diagram – that is, between the stationary and rotating rings – towards the atmosphere. Water is generally used when transporting salts that tend to crystallize, steam is used for media that are prone to solidifying, and nitrogen is used for low-temperature media

It’s not certain which end has the motor; what is certain is that the left side is the pump side (the bearing housings might be located at both ends of the pump)

The medium for this pump is deoxygenated water; the outlet pressure is 4.4 MPa, and the flow rate is around 650 t/h. The Plan23 model is used. Why isn’t this throttle bushing on the medium side? What other function does it have on the back of the stationary ring?

PLAN62 involves treating the back side (or end) of the mechanical seal (this is not related to flushing the moving and stationary rings of the mechanical seal). If you only use PLAN23, this loop is completely useless! Then why is it still necessary to use this ring? It is required by API682; the purpose is to avoid the need to replace the mechanical seal if the factory decides to add PLAN62 in the future!
