Centrifugal pump bearing housing seal clearance?

The oil seal in the bearing housing of an old centrifugal pump in our factory is a skeleton oil seal, and it starts leaking oil after 2-3 years of operation. We would like to replace this skeleton oil seal with a labyrinth oil seal. What is the clearance between the labyrinth oil seal and the shaft?

It’s best not to make any changes; the skeleton oil seal provides a satisfactory level of sealing, which is better than a labyrinth seal.
A gap of 0.5 to 1 mm is effective; anything more than that doesn’t work
Even if it can last two or three years, that’s not enough for you; you don’t carry out maintenance work each year. Skeleton oil seals aren’t expensive; changing them every two years is sufficient
The shaft diameter is φ40; a permanent magnet coupling is used, which makes disassembly very difficult.
It would be great if it could last two or three years! Be content. It needs to be replaced every two years, and the workload isn’t heavy.
