I’d like to ask my fellow experts: 1. What are the respective application scenarios for submersible and deep-well type cryogenic liquid cargo pumps? 2. Which manufacturers produce deep-well type pumps? 3. Can deep-well type pumps be used in LNG ship membrane tanks, and why or why not?
Are all land-based receiving stations submersible type?
This post was last edited by tomlinson on 2017-9-16 at 17:28. Submersible pumps are generally used in the membrane tanks of LNG carriers, with deep-well pumps being rarely used. Currently, aside from a few Wartsila vessels that use deep-well pumps, large LNG carriers all employ submersible pumps. Moreover, the deep well pumps used by Wartsila are primarily used for transporting marine fuel. The reason is that LNG transfer pumps generally require a high flow rate in order to reduce the time spent at port; therefore, submersible pumps with high flow rates are typically used. If deep-well pumps are used and have a high flow rate, the load on their long shafts becomes excessive, and such long shafts are prone to failure. To minimize risks, deep-well pumps are rarely used as marine transfer pumps.
Are there any other deep well pump suppliers besides the Danish one acquired by Wartsila? I heard there is one in Japan; do you know its name? The senior has a lot of experience; are they from the shipbuilding industry? I’ve followed them and look forward to more communication in the future.
Japan has not heard of it; in Japan, Shinko (Kobe Steel) products are those that are most commonly used on ships.
