Water suddenly appeared in the water valve well again; after pumping water out, it was found that the leak was caused by cracks in the valve seat. What causes the cracks in the seat of a DN300 valve that has been in use for 13 years to appear as shown in the image?
The reasons are: 1. Poor quality of the valve; 2. The valve is of a low grade and its service life has expired.
First, it is necessary to analyze the interval between the last operation performed on this valve before the leakage occurred and the time when the leakage started, in order to determine whether it is related to the action of closing the valve. As the temperature drops, valves of this type that are closed too tightly may develop cracks due to structural changes resulting from the lower temperature; these are mostly frost cracks. If it is a normally open valve, knock on the crack in the valve to see whether the crack is new or whether there were signs of rusting previously; it’s also possible that the crack occurred due to freezing, but no leakage was present, and over time the valve was damaged as a result of forced opening and closing ? ?
