May I ask everyone: Should an open impeller centrifugal pump be equipped with a filter?
This depends on the circulation structure of the pump; it’s not absolute
Generally, a filter is required to prevent oversized or overly hard impurities. If it can be ensured that there are no impurities, it is not necessary to follow it.
During the trial operation of the pump, the fineness of the filter screen can be determined based on factors such as the medium, process flow, and operational requirements; temporary filters can be used to prevent the accumulation of residues and large hard particles in the pipes. After it is put into use and is operating normally, there is no need to add anything further, as it already has an open impeller that enables it to handle large amounts of particulate impurities. Moreover, the mechanical seal should also be a wear-resistant type; this type of pump is designed for transporting fluids with high levels of particulate impurities. Adding a filter can easily increase the resistance at the pump inlet.
A filter needs to be installed to prevent debris such as floating valves from entering the pump

If there are no large particles of impurities, it’s not necessary to install them; after all, open impeller turbines are designed for transporting liquids containing suspended particles
