RT, what I want to ask is: when the initial value is set to 0, after rotating the disk 360°, it occasionally shows a value other than 0 – it deviates by 1–2 tracks. What could be the reason for this? Is it allowed for this situation to occur in practice? What impact will it have on the measurement results?
When using a gauge to adjust the timing, both the stiffness of the bracket and gravity can cause the phenomenon you mentioned to occur.
Set the initial value for coupling alignment to 0; if the rotation of 360° does not result in a value of 0, it indicates that true alignment has not been achieved yet. Factors such as the stiffness of the supports, gravity, and the bearings also need to be taken into consideration
During alignment, both couplings must rotate simultaneously, and the alignment point (the point indicated by the dial indicator) must be synchronized. In such a situation, if the problem you mentioned occurs, factors such as the rigid deflection of the dial indicator holder and gravity can be taken into consideration.
In practice, one to two threads are generally fine unless extremely high precision is required; after all, it’s not possible to ensure that you return to the original position after rotating 360 degrees, as human operation introduces systematic errors.
