What is the difference between cantilever centrifugal pumps and simply supported centrifugal pumps? Which one is generally more commonly used? (It would be great if there were pictures:lol)
A cantilever is defined in relation to support at both ends; that is, when the impeller is located at one end of the bearing, it is considered a cantilever, whereas when there are bearings on both sides of the impeller, it is considered to have support at both ends. As for the simply supported condition you mentioned, I’ve never heard of this concept.

The simply supported type you mentioned is actually the type with supports at both ends (BB); the impeller is mounted on the pump shaft within these supports. This type of pump has a favorable stress condition for its shaft, and it is suitable for two-stage pumps as well as the vast majority of single-stage pumps. It represents the most basic and commonly used design configuration. In a cantilever pump (OH), the impeller is mounted on a pump shaft that extends beyond two supports (bearings), and due to the cantilevered design of the shaft, its stress conditions are poor. It is mostly used in single-stage pumps.
