Repair of material leakage fault in single-stage screw pumps

Today, the workshop received a request to repair a Westpac BN10 screw pump that was leaking fluid and material. Upon disassembly, it was found that the drive shaft of the screw pump was dirty and rough, which caused the mechanical seal on the pump shaft to get damaged during operation. The friction surface of the silicon carbide seal was also rough, leading to the rupture of the seal’s O-ring. Additionally, the radial gap between the auxiliary seal ring on the suction side flange and the end cover was too large. To resolve these issues, tape was wrapped around the seal rings to improve sealing performance, the drive shaft was polished with sandpaper, and two new sets of mechanical seals were installed. It’s probably hard to find seals that are a slightly larger size; using electrical tape as a temporary solution works in such cases
