What are the principles for selecting a jacket or cooling system for a pump? Can it be assumed that a jacket is necessary whenever the freezing point of the material inside the pump is higher than the ambient temperature? Regardless of the operating temperature of the material inside the pump?
How can one think like that? In the northeast, winter temperatures are below zero – does a pump used for drawing water also need a jacket?
There are too many factors to consider; for example, in the northeast during winter, temperatures can drop below minus 20 degrees. I would use steam for insulation on the water pumps, which would increase the cost of the first pump. Steam pipelines and other facilities also need to be installed on site. Cost, process, operation, and medium properties all need to be considered. For example, with liquid sulfur, a pump cannot be used without insulation, and the temperature must be maintained around 130-160 degrees; if the temperature is too low or too high, the viscosity will increase.
The jacket serves two purposes only: to prevent heating that could lead to crystallization, and to prevent cooling that could overheat the seal or brackets
