Dear sea friends, our factory has a water intake pump (a single-stage double-suction pump), which is installed on a pump boat. Its outlet pipe is directly welded to the side wall of the pump ship. I don’t think I’ve seen this type of piping before; it seems that after the outlet pipe is welded in place, there is no more expansion at the equipment’s outlet. However, I couldn’t find any relevant standards regarding this. Is it standard to do this? Thank you

Because the filter is located outside the side wall of the pump ship, an expansion joint is also installed between the filter and the side wall. If the pipeline is not welded tightly. Does that mean the installation cost of an expansion joint can be saved? (Because after welding, the distance between the side wall and the filter is very small.) It is not easy to remove the flange without installing an expansion joint

Oh, I didn’t understand what you meant. From the picture, it seems that expansion joints should be installed; this makes maintenance easier and also reduces the impact of vibrations on the pipes.
