In the current operating condition, the material tank and pipelines ahead of the pump are in a closed state, so it is not possible to observe any changes in the liquid level. It can easily cause the pump to be evacuated and thus damaged. Is it possible to control the pump’s shutdown using a flow meter before the pump? For example, the pump could automatically stop operating when the flow rate drops to 1 m3/h.
It is not advisable to install a flow meter before the pump, as this increases the likelihood of cavitation in the pump. A flow meter can be installed on the liquid outlet pipeline after the pump; the pump will shut down automatically when the flow rate drops below a certain level.

It is possible to measure the motor current; it can be connected directly to the PLC. If the current during idling is low, an alarm will be triggered and the pump will stop – this is a simple solution that requires no additional investment. Alternatively, a pressure transmitter can be used, which is simpler than a flow meter; similarly, an alarm can be set to shut down the pump in case of unstable pressure (cavitation).

It is more reliable to install a flow meter at the pump outlet. Use pressure in its place, being careful to check whether the pressure in the reactor ahead is maintained with gas.
