There is a rectangular prism in front of the pump head of the self-priming pump; I’m not sure what purpose it serves. See the picture. Thank you, points appreciated!
You’ve equipped this centrifugal pump with a priming tank
Vacuum water intake tank: When starting up for the first time, the tank needs to be filled with the medium. After startup, the medium inside the tank is discharged through the outlet pipe due to the centrifugal force of the pump, thereby creating a vacuum inside the tank. The medium in the tank enters the container through the suction pipe under atmospheric pressure, thereby achieving self-priming.
For water storage, self-priming pumps generally have the pump inlet at a higher level than the upper edge of the impeller, so that the impeller is submerged. A self-priming pump only needs to be primed before its first use; no priming is required thereafter, as the special design of the inlet ensures that water remains in the pump chamber to cover the impeller, allowing it to be used immediately without the need for priming. The water tank in your diagram serves the same purpose as well.
