Recently, I saw in the forum some posts from marine enthusiasts showing videos of pump disassembly and assembly abroad; in those videos, the people wearing gloves and new shirts handled the pumps with care, wiping and cleaning them, taking measurements, and having a full set of specialized tools at hand. The fit between the various components during assembly wasn’t too tight, especially between the impeller and the shaft, as well as between the shafts and the sleeves. The joints of the pump body and cover, along with those of the sealing gaskets, could be easily pushed in and pulled out by hand, and there was no sign of heavy hammering or striking during the process. Sometimes I think that foreign pump products really do have excellent precision and surface finish; is there really such a big difference in quality between domestic and foreign pumps, as well as in the skill of the operators? How many of you have experienced disassembling and assembling originally imported pumps, or have seen foreigners do so? What is it like in reality? This is necessary. They take mechanical engineering to its extreme, turning it into art and creating high-value products. The key is precision and material. High-priced watches are a good example of this. Many mechanical repairs, especially those related to transmissions, essentially have no requirements regarding the on-site environment or the precision of installation. As a result, the performance of the equipment after maintenance declines over time, and the reason for this is the issue of cleanliness during component installation, with dust and debris getting introduced into them. I’ve encountered situations where the piston release bolts were used, and the material of the piston rod was relatively soft while the super-strong bolts had high hardness; this often led to difficulties in disassembly and subsequent damage. The reason for this is that even tiny fibers entering the threads can cause damage to them. After taking measures to improve the installation cleanliness, such phenomena no longer occurred. Therefore, the degree of crystallinity achieved during installation is the most fundamental factor; as for precision, it is best to strive for perfection as much as possible depending on the actual conditions of the equipment. Actually, when it comes to the installation and maintenance of equipment, if you try to cut corners, they will make your life difficult. More or less, it’s only something that can be understood through practice :)
The gap is quite significant; when I was involved in the maintenance of *Bilong compressors imported from Italy in 1998, it was possible to easily disassemble and assemble compressors weighing dozens of tons by using the specialized tools provided by the manufacturer for those compressors and turbines, along with some conventional tools. The key was to strictly follow the installation guidelines provided by the manufacturer throughout the disassembly and assembly process.
It seems quite difficult to assemble and disassemble slightly larger pumps available in the domestic market without using heavy hammers or tools like crowbars, right?:Q
This topic is great. Assembling domestic machinery is extremely troublesome. Some time ago I was repairing a straightening machine; good heavens, it was impossible to remove one shaft sleeve. I tried various methods: using a air gun, hammers, four-jaw clamps – nothing worked, and I still couldn’t remove it. With a single command from the leader, it was cut open; after a few minutes of using a gun to cut, a gap was created, and it could be pulled out with a few blows of a crowbar.
