What lubricant should be used for the bearing chamber of a heat transfer oil pump operating at temperatures of 200–300°C? I’m using the heat transfer oil as recommended by the manufacturer, but the bearings get damaged after just a few hundred hours of operation. I suspect this is due to insufficient lubrication caused by the use of heat transfer oil; if heat transfer oil isn’t used, what kind of oil should be used at such high temperatures? ?
It’s just a matter of adding heat transfer oil; you’ve chosen the wrong type of bearing
I’m not sure what type of pump you are using; there is a packing seal ring between the bearing housing and the pump chamber. During operation, only a small amount of hot oil enters the bearing housing. Generally, the temperature of the two bearings near the pump does not exceed 120 degrees, while those near the motor do not exceed 90 degrees. The temperature in the bearing housing does not reach over 200 degrees
There are specialized high-temperature lubricants; check to see if there is an issue with the pump selection Or there’s a problem with the bearing model or its installation!
In the heat transfer oil pump shown in Figure 7, the bearing located in the pump chamber can be filled with either No. 40 engine oil or CKC320 gear oil; the bearing near the motor end should be lubricated with molybdenum disulfide grease, using a moderate amount; The hot oil pump in Figure 8 should be filled with No. 40 mechanical oil, with the amount of oil added not exceeding one-third of the volume of the bearing chamber. For maintenance, genuine C3 series bearings from NSK or NSKF should be used; bearings from motors of the same type cannot be used as substitutes for the bearings in the hot oil pump. The bearings were supplied by the pump manufacturer; they are of the NSK6308ZZC3E type. It’s not clear whether they are designed for high temperatures, as no information on this can be found in NSK’s catalog
What is the temperature of the bearing housing in operation? Under normal conditions, the amount of heat entering the bearing housing from the impeller side is limited; if the temperature is indeed high, cooling measures can be increased. Using standard lubricating oil is sufficient; the allowable heating temperature during bearing installation is no more than 120, which is roughly the same as the allowable operating temperature of the lubricating oil
