If the pump is installed on an uneven steel plate, should shims be used or what should be done?
Your pump should be on the platform; just look for it as you would normally. If the motor is high, raise the side of the pump
Modular construction uses a steel structure format; it’s not possible to elevate all the pumps using shims. Instead, if one side is lower, an inclined piece of metal has to be added and welded in place. I’m wondering if there are any standards regarding this, or how others carry out such construction
Mainly, the pump foundation and the steel plate foundation do not fit together perfectly, and there is concern that vibrations will be high during operation
First, measure the current level of the pump, then adjust by inserting shims. There are also horizontal requirements for steel structures; the deviation should not be too large, probably within 1 mm/m. If the steel structure is significantly out of level, use set screws to adjust the frame until it is level, insert appropriate shims under the frame, and then weld everything together thoroughly
Installation without shims: First, level the steel frame and adjust its elevation to get it aligned; then, using the side of the pump as a reference, make fine adjustments to the motor. After piping is completed, realign and center it again
The specifications for leveling and alignment apply to situations that require secondary grouting. This scenario shown in the diagram is suitable for skid-mounted equipment; what’s required in such cases is the levelness of the foundation, that is, of the steel frame below, with the tolerance usually being one thousandth of the side length.

In the photo, the pump is directly installed on the steel base, with no shims placed between the pump and the base; therefore, LZ’s concerns are valid. In fact, the steel structural base can be treated as a foundation; when installing it, shims can be placed between the pump and the steel structural base. Shims should mainly be placed on both sides of the connection bolts, and additional shims can be used if the distance between the bolts is large. It’s important to ensure that all shims are installed in positions where there are rebar plates (rebar plates can be welded in if necessary).
