Why is methanol used as the buffer tank fluid in ethylene pumps?
There are several principles for selecting a buffer: 1. It should not freeze easily, to prevent damage to the mechanical seal in winter conditions； 2. It has good fluidity; the buffer acts as a lubricant for mechanical seals, so a liquid with good fluidity is required ； 3 Once it leaks into the process materials, it does not affect the quality of the materials or is easily separable
This is determined based on the process requirements. The buffer solution should have good lubricating and flow properties; it’s preferable if it can withstand both high temperatures and low-temperature freezing. There should be no compatibility issues with the pumped medium
