Among them, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), China University of Geosciences (Beijing), China University of Petroleum (East China), and China University of Petroleum (Beijing) are among the top 100.
In terms of the quality of students, four petroleum-related universities—China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Yanshan University, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and China University of Petroleum (East China)—made it into the top 100 nationwide. This indicator is a comprehensive reflection of a university’s reputation in talent cultivation, and it also gives an indirect indication of the competition level among students applying to petroleum-related programs in the college entrance examination.

As a graduate of the Petroleum Engineering program at Liaoning University of Petroleum and Chemical Technology, class of 2014, I would say that the quality of applicants to our school is lowered by a large number of students with low scores who were admitted as a result of expanded enrollment policies. The average score of applicants for the school’s strong programs is still decent, being around 30 points above the threshold for first-tier universities in Liaoning Province
Especially before Liaoning Province adopted the system of determining scores first and then submitting applications, there were many students in the province with college entrance exam scores approaching 600 who applied for these competitive majors.
