[Haichuan Chemical Salary News] Satellite Petrochemical’s ethane cracking to produce ethylene project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020

On April 28, 2020, it was reported that Saturn Petrochemical stated that the C2 project is progressing as planned, with completion expected by the end of 2020. The technologies used in this project are all currently advanced international technologies; the HDPE project makes use of patented technologies from LyondellBasell Industries ； The EO/EG process utilizes Shell’s patented technology, which is already widely used around the world. In terms of raw material supply, procurement agreements have been signed with U.S. energy transmission companies, and a joint venture company for ethane export pipelines has been established to ensure a steady supply of raw materials. It is understood that the prospects for ethane cracking are very promising, with the C2 industry chain continuing to expand downward. Both PDH and ethane cracking, as chosen by Satellite Petrochemicals, represent olefin production methods with the lowest raw material costs. The first phase of the ethane cracking facility in Lianyungang, capable of producing 1.25 million tons of ethylene per year along with related downstream products, is set to go into operation by the end of 2020. It is estimated that the operating profit from this new project will be over 1,000 yuan per ton of ethylene.
Relevant updates: Successful first-commissioning of 1.25 million tons/year ethylene production unit at Lianyungang Petrochemical, Satellite Group. On April 17, 2020, all three units of the 3.2 million tons/year light hydrocarbon comprehensive utilization project at Lianyungang Petrochemical, Satellite Group – specifically those for producing 1.25 million tons of ethylene per year – completed their no-load testing successfully; various parameters such as shaft vibration, bearing temperature, and lubricant temperature met the specified standards. Lianyungang Petrochemical’s 3.2 million tons per year comprehensive utilization project for light hydrocarbons is the first domestic chemical plant of a million-ton scale dedicated to the production of ethylene from pure ethane. Compared with traditional processes such as those using naphtha or methanol to produce olefins, ethylene production via ethane cracking offers the advantages of relatively simple cracking gas composition and a high yield of ethylene, thus holding great potential in the market. In February 2020, the company carried out its first issuance of corporate bonds, raising 550 million yuan. It also planned to raise 3 billion yuan through private stock offerings, to be used for the Lianyungang Petrochemical Co., Ltd. project involving a combined facility capable of producing 1.35 million tons of PE, 2.19 million tons of EOE, and 260,000 tons of ACN per year. At present, this project has entered the stage of full-scale construction, utilizing the most advanced production technologies available today. The main design has been largely completed, and the installation of large-scale equipment has begun ； The construction of the supporting docks and low-temperature storage tanks is progressing smoothly ； The US ORBIT project is implemented simultaneously.
