Recently, the oversized tower component used in the ethanol processing unit of this project, which was manufactured on-site by Shaanxi Chemical Equipment Manufacturing Company, was successfully assembled in the air, marking the entry of the delivery process for this oversized equipment into its final phase. The equipment manufacturing company was tasked with producing 11 units of equipment for the ethanol production facility as part of Anhui Carbonxin’s methanol comprehensive utilization project. Six of these units were manufactured in the factory, while the other five large-sized units were constructed on-site; these included three large-scale towers used in the methanol degreasing process, as well as the upper and lower towers for ethanol purification. All of these are key components of the ethanol production facility in Anhui Carbonxin’s methanol comprehensive utilization project. Out of the 11 units, 8 have already been delivered; the remaining 3 units that exceed the specified dimensions will be delivered by the end of this month. Anhui CarbonXin Technology’s 600,000-ton ethanol project utilizes the patented technology developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, for the production of anhydrous ethanol (DMTE) through the carbonylation of syngas/methanol using dimethyl ether. Using methanol and syngas as raw materials, through methanol dehydration, dimethyl ether carbonylation, methyl acetate hydrogenation, and separation, 600,000 tons of ethanol are produced annually. Project Overview: Anhui Carbonxin Technology Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Huaibei Mining Co., Ltd. Huaibei Mining is a source of high-quality coal in East China. Its main business is coal production, and coal chemical processing, as one of the important ways to extend the industrial chain and promote the sustainable development of coal enterprises, has seen rapid growth within the Huaibei Mining Group in recent years. Building on the existing methanol production facilities, CarbonXin Technology Co., Ltd. plans to construct a new ethanol production plant with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons in the Linhuan Industrial Park, utilizing the existing methanol production capacity. This plant will be equipped with powder gasification units, purification units, as well as CO and H2 separation units. On December 20, 2021, the trial production of the methanol project at Anhui CarbonXin Technology Co., Ltd. and the official commencement ceremony for the EPC work of the ethanol project were held on site at the Anhui CarbonXin coke oven gas comprehensive utilization project. The successful completion of this ceremony marks the substantial completion of the project with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of methanol, putting it in condition for trial production; at the same time, the project with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons of ethanol has officially commenced operations. The 500,000-ton/year project for the comprehensive utilization of coke oven gas to produce methanol uses coal as raw material, making comprehensive use of the hydrogen-rich gas generated during the methanol production process at Linhuan Coking Co., Ltd., and supplementing carbon through gasification; the designed annual output is 500,000 tons of methanol. The project is located within the Anhui (Huaibei) New Coal Chemical Synthesis Materials Base (formerly the Huanhuan Industrial Park in Huaibei, Anhui). It is a key project under Anhui Province’s “861 Action Plan”, and it represents the first project to be launched as part of the “Coal Chemistry-Salt Chemistry Integration” initiative, which is aimed at revitalizing the economy of northern Anhui. Anhui Carbonxin Technology Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Huaibei Mining Group. The comprehensive utilization project for coke oven gas is located in the Linhuan Industrial Park, Han Village Town, Suixi County, Huaibei City, Anhui Province. The 500,000-ton-per-year project for the comprehensive utilization of coke oven gas to produce methanol is one of the third-phase projects within the “Comprehensive Utilization Project for Coke Oven Gas” planned and implemented by Huaibei Mining Group. This project aims to make full use of the hydrogen-rich off-gases from the existing two 400,000-ton-per-year methanol production units at the Linhuan coking plant; by supplementing carbon through coal-to-gas conversion, an additional unit with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of methanol will be added, resulting in an overall annual production capacity of 900,000 tons of methanol. This methanol will serve as raw material for extending the downstream olefin industry chain in Anhui (Huaibei)’s new coal chemical synthesis materials base. The base is a high-tech industrial park whose strategic development directions are coal-based synthetic materials and a circular economy; it serves as an important platform for Huaibei City to promote the transformation of its resource-based economy.
