[Haichuan Project Updates] Ningdong Taihe to invest 1.5 billion yuan in building a new facility capable of producing 125,000 tons of BDO and 100,000 tons of PTMEG; the project is now under approval process

PTMEG (poly**furan/polytetramethylene ether glycol) is the main downstream application of BDO, accounting for about 53% of its consumption, with an established production capacity of around 850,000 tons. In recent years, investment in BDO in China has remained robust, driven by three key industry sectors: biodegradable plastics (such as PBAT, PBS, PBSA, etc.), lithium battery solvents used in the new energy industry (such as GBL, NMP, etc.), and the PTMEG-spandex industry chain. The applications of PTMEG include spandex, polyurethane elastomers (mainly polyether-based TPU, etc.), and ester-ether copolymer elastomers (TPEE), among which spandex represents the largest application area, accounting for about 95%. Spandex boasts excellent properties, and as there is an increasing demand for comfort in the textile and apparel industry, the spandex sector is set to enter a new phase of capacity expansion ； Moreover, the application of future technological breakthroughs in high-end fields will also become a new source of growth for PTMEG. Driven by the favorable development prospects of the spandex industry and the expansion of the large-scale BDO industrial chain, new PTMEG production projects are seeing rapid growth, with two main trends: integration of BDO and PTMEG, and clustering of the PTMEG and spandex industries. In Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia, taking advantage of the local resource advantages, BDO plans to build a production capacity of nearly 3 million tons, of which 1.44 million tons will be dedicated to the production of PTMEG ； The Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base is striving to create a million-ton-scale \"Spandex Valley\" in China; the existing and planned production capacity for PTMEG amounts to nearly 500,000 tons ； In the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone of Chongqing, integrated projects have been planned and contracted, including a project by Sinopec Chuanyi Chemical worth 7.45 billion yuan for an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of BDO, as well as a project by Zhurun Chemical worth 2.9 billion yuan for the production of NMP-based new materials.
