Zhonghe Gasification Signs Contract for Xinjiang Tianye Project Author/Source: Energy & Chemical Industry News Date: April 24, 2023 Clicks: 11 Recently, Zhongke Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Zhonghe Gasification”) signed a contract with Xinjiang Tianye Huihe New Materials Co., Ltd. for the general contracting of the boiler section of a project aimed at the recycling of carbon-based solid waste and the utilization of waste heat and pressure. This is the first fluidized bed gasification ash disposal project for which Zhonghe Gasification has secured a contract, and it also marks the entry of its carbon residue disposal technology into broader application areas. The first phase of Xinjiang Tianye Huihe New Materials Co., Ltd.’s 600,000 tons per year ethylene glycol production project uses Jinhua furnaces to produce syngas, which generates a large amount of gasification ash and slag each year. This type of ash and slag is characterized by a high moisture content, extremely fine particle size, high carbon content, high ash content, very low volatile matter, and a certain calorific value. It is usually disposed of through direct landfilling or utilized at low costs, which not only consumes large amounts of land resources and causes soil damage but also results in the waste of energy due to the failure to recycle the residual carbon present in the ash and slag. Based on the actual conditions of the project and the characteristics of the ash, the technical staff at Zhonghe Gasification designed a circulating fluidized bed combustion system to handle the gasification ash generated by the gasification unit. The ash after pressure filtration can be fed directly into the combustion system without any need for drying, thereby generating steam and enabling the hierarchical utilization of coal. Once the project is put into operation, coal gas combined heat and power generation will be achieved, allowing coal to be utilized to the fullest extent and enabling effective energy conservation and emission reduction. The circulating fluidized bed combustion technology used in this project comes from the Circulating Fluidized Bed Laboratory at the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Relying on the Strategic Priority Research Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences titled “CFB reburning technology for gasified ash and fine powder ash, as well as high-temperature steam production technology,” the R&D team took the fine powder ash and gasified ash separated after coal gasification as research subjects to develop a technology for the combustion utilization of residue carbon. This technology overcomes the challenges associated with the fluidization and circulation of ultra-fine particle-sized solid materials, as well as the issues related to the ignition, stable combustion, and complete combustion of ultra-low volatile carbon-based fuels. It enables the efficient and clean combustion of gasification ash and slag, offering advantages such as the ability to handle large amounts of ash and slag, high steam parameters, high combustion efficiency, and significant waste reduction. The heat generated from the combustion of ash and slag is used to produce high-temperature, high-pressure steam for power generation, thus facilitating the clean and efficient utilization of coal at various stages. Furthermore, this technology can also be applied to the disposal of other carbon-based solid wastes. With the deepening of the \"dual carbon\" policies, how to recycle the gasification waste generated by gasification units and achieve its comprehensive utilization has become one of the key constraints on the development of gasification. Both fluidized bed and gas flow bed gasification technologies produce gasification slag with a certain calorific value. Over the next 2–3 years, the production volume of this gasification slag is expected to reach 100 million tons per year. Gasification fly ash has a high carbon content (30%–50%) and a high calorific value (2000–4000 kcal/kg). By further burning the unburned carbon in this fly ash, it is possible to improve the overall energy efficiency of the gasification system as well as its economic benefits; at the same time, this approach can also yield positive environmental and social benefits. Xinjiang Tianye Huihe New Materials Co., Ltd. was established on July 12, 2017, and is a holding company of Xinjiang Tianye (Group) Co., Ltd. Xinjiang Tianye (Group) Co., Ltd. was established in July 1996; it is a large state-owned enterprise belonging to the Eighth Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Its business activities cover various fields such as thermal power, chemicals, calcium carbide, cement, mining, building materials, logistics, foreign trade, and construction. Xinjiang Tianye Huihe New Materials Co., Ltd. is responsible for the construction and operation of the 600,000-ton-per-year ethylene glycol production facility as part of the first phase of a project aimed at producing low-carbon alcohols from syngas on a scale of 1 million tons per year. The construction of this facility, which has an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons of ethylene glycol from syngas, began in August 2017 and was completed and put into operation in August 2020. The total investment in this project was 7.997 billion yuan, and it covers an area of 2,250 mu; it was the first project to be built in the Shihu Tan New Materials Industrial Park (North Area).
