Recently, the online Raman spectroscopy analysis system jointly developed by Yangzi Petrochemical’s Aromatics Plant and Hangzhou Pexi Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. was successfully applied at Yangzi Petrochemical’s No. 2 reforming unit. This system is capable of rapidly, in real time, and with high precision detecting the composition of raw materials, thereby optimizing operations and **improving the accuracy of detecting the content and octane rating of aromatic products such as benzene, toluene, and xylene. In recent years, as the process industry has placed increasing demands for advanced control, online analyzers are being used more and more widely in various production facilities. To optimize the process parameters of Unit 2 reformer in real time, improve the yield of target products, and enhance economic efficiency, Yangzi Petrochemical has collaborated with research institutions and specialized companies to develop a Raman spectroscopy analysis system. “Traditional manual analysis is usually carried out three times a week; it has a low frequency and high costs. In contrast, Raman spectroscopy analysis systems enable online, real-time analysis as well as dynamic analysis, and the data obtained from such analysis can be used to optimize the reforming unit accordingly, thereby increasing the yield of aromatics. ”Huang Zichao, the workshop director of the reformation combined plant, said. The successful application of this system is crucial for the analysis of the aromatic hydrocarbon and benzene contents in reformed products. This analysis system does not require the collection of a large number of analysis oil samples with known compositions and properties. Its analysis model has strong extrapolation capabilities, enabling it to automatically adapt to changes in process characteristics and raw materials. It offers advantages such as a short detection time, no need for sample pretreatment, and reduced on-site maintenance requirements. Based on the data collected by the Raman spectroscopy analysis system, Yangzi Petrochemical has currently developed four models: one for maximizing aromatic yield, one for maximizing octane number yield, one for maximizing profitability, and one for real-time calculation of energy consumption. Through the established model, operators can optimize the operation of the plant in response to the dynamic changes in raw materials, thereby maximizing the yield of the target product as well as the economic efficiency of plant operation. After the implementation of this system, the yield of reformated aromatics at Unit 2 increased by more than 0.25%, resulting in annual economic benefits exceeding 6 million yuan.
