On July 3rd, work started on the upper modules of the floating natural gas liquefaction project in Area 12 off the coast of Congo, at the Zhoushan base of Huisheng Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. located on Xiushan Island in Daishan County, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. Minister Idoua, Eni’s representative, and Mr. Huabangsong jointly launched module manufacturing. The upper module that is being constructed now will be used for the floating natural gas liquefaction plant ordered by Italy’s oil and gas giant Eni. Once completed, the facility will be deployed at a large gas field in the 12th region of the Republic of the Congo, about 50 kilometers off the coast at depths of 30 to 50 meters ； At full capacity, it can receive approximately 10.76 million cubic meters of natural gas per day from nearby gas fields for production, storage, and export, with an annual LNG (liquefied natural gas) production capacity of 2.4 million tons. In recent years, amid changes in the international supply and demand structure for natural gas, the need for energy security has been increasing in some regions; as a result, it is becoming a trend for oil and gas companies around the world to use FLNG to develop offshore natural gas resources. Currently, only 5 FLNG (floating liquefied natural gas) units are in operation worldwide, and one of those small FLNG units with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons, which was put into service in 2017, was manufactured by Huisheng Offshore Engineering. “The capacity of the projects launched this time reaches 2.4 million tons. Overall, their significance differs in terms of international standards and customer acceptance. ”Wei Huaqing, vice president of Huisheng Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., said. The Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Facility (FLNG) is a powerful tool for developing offshore natural gas resources; it enables the direct liquefaction and storage of extracted natural gas in waters far from land. It is one of the most complex, expensive, and high-value devices in the field of offshore natural gas infrastructure, and can be regarded as the \"new jewel in the crown\" of the shipbuilding and offshore engineering industry. Compared to traditional onshore LNG plants, FLNG (floating natural gas liquefaction) features high equipment integration, shorter construction times, lower investment costs, greater flexibility in development, controllable risks, and earlier realization of profits. In recent years, Daishan County has accelerated the development of an industrial cluster for high-end ships and offshore engineering equipment, by concentrating efforts, pooling resources, and integrating policies to drive changes in the quality, efficiency, and driving forces of this industry. Today, Daishan County has established a complete industrial chain system for ships, offshore engineering, and related services, integrating research and development, design, construction, supporting facilities, and maintenance. In the first quarter of this year, the output value of the cluster increased by 21% on a year-on-year basis.
